A Westminster Larger Catechism along by using a Westminster Shorter Catechism is the catechism of Presbyterians througout the World.
History of the Westminster Larger Catechism
Around 1643 when the English Parliament called the Westminster Assembly to produce a Westminster Confession, it also asked for the directory of "catechising". A Assembly asked Herbert Palmer to produce the draft of the Larger Catechism. Robert Baillie and other Scottish delegates found a operate unsatisfying. Within December 1643 a committee was formed to write the Catechism. Around January 1647 the Assembly gave up writing 1 catechism and split it into two. A Westminster Shorter Catechism was to be "more easie and short for beginners" and a Larger Catechism was to exist as "more exact and comprehensive". A Catechism was completed per Westminster Assembly in 1647. It was so adopted per General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1648 and by the Presbyterian Synod of New York and Philadelphia in 1788.
